Cardiff is the capital city of Wales and an up and coming location in the UK in terms of employment and retail. It has recently been voted among the top places to shop in the UK and as such has a lot of people employed in the retail sector. The areas of finance and business are have also increased rapidly over modern times in Cardiff and the number of people in the city employed in these fields has increased dramatically. Cardiff is also home to the University of Cardiff which is one the UK's leading universities.

The field of science itself has such a massive impact upon all our lives and helps us to understand the world around us. It is a respected profession yet not many people actually grasp the day to day role of the scientist. There are many different roles in which a scientist may work such as medical research, or studying the earth or the chemistry of the world around us. Natural science is just one aspect of science but it is one that is probably the basis for a lot of the science that we study in school. It encompasses areas including physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy and earth sciences.

For many scientists the ultimate dream is to win a noble prize. These were set up in the will of Alfred Noble in 1895 and are regarded as the most prestigious recognition within the profession that it is possible to achieve. The awarding of the prizes has been somewhat controversial over the years as inevitably some people have missed out on a prize that were seen as being worthy and equally there have been those who have been awarded prizes and were not necessarily seen as being fit to receive them.
