There is a centre for science in Cardiff called Techniquest. It is a hands on centre of science where there are puzzles, various challenges and other hands on exhibits that the whole family can use. On top of this the centre boasts a planetarium, lab, discovery room, and a very high-tec theatre of science.
The aim of the centre is to get the whole family involved in science and the extend the appreciation of this subject. It is conveniently located in Cardiff Bay and is intended to be enjoyed by both leisure and educational visitors and groups alike. It offers special courses during term time but is also open during the school holidays for visitors and aims to show everyone that science can be enjoyable.
The planetarium part of the centre has recently run an exhibition into why it gets dark at night and light during the day aimed at those under 7 years old. This exhibition involved the use of night time animals to bring the exhibition alive for the children and to increase the depth of their understanding. There has also been an exhibition into whether or not the moon landings were fact or fiction and the evidence there is to support this.
The centre also has some virtual exhibits available on its website such as 'how many people are there like me?', Colour combinations, sketching symmetry and motion and camouflage.
Techniquest aims to make all its own exhibits from all aspects of the design, development and construction process.
There are several exciting scientific projects going on in Cardiff at the moment linked to the university. Among them is the Astronomy and Space Research Programme.
